The Katingan Mentaya Project is a tropical peatland forest protection and restoration initiative in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, covering 149,800 hectares of high-carbon peatland. Established to prevent the conversion of forests into industrial acacia plantations, the project reduces greenhouse gas emissions while protecting biodiversity and restoring one of the world's most important peatland ecosystems. It is certified under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards.
Beyond climate benefits, the project works closely with 35 surrounding villages to improve livelihoods through sustainable economic opportunities, community development, and forest conservation. Its activities support all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with regular independent verification to ensure measurable environmental, social, and biodiversity impacts.
